I'm so ready for Charlie to give up his nap. He just turned 2 and is flirting with the idea of not napping. I actually really like it when we can stop orienting our day around a giant dead-time for naps. The break is nice, of course, but it's also nice to just do what you want all day without worrying about naps.

Plus, no naps means longer nightime sleep. I think Tommy stopped napping around 2 years 4 months. After that he started sleeping an extra 1.5 to 2 hours a night. He'd still zonk out in the car or in the stroller or even on the couch in front of the TV on days when he was really tired, but it wasn't an official halt to the day. Loved it!

There is no epidural for the writing part, I'm afraid, but for the getting published part (which is itself very painful), I highly recommend getting an agent. I know you're not there yet, but my agent just talked me down off a ledge yesterday (because my editor STILL hasn't gotten notes to me! Grrrr!), and I can't sing his praises enough. I would be up shit creek without him.

For what its worth to you this is how i handle the i-don't-want-to-nap-situation:

i put him in his bed and lock him in his room. I tell him its quiet time, not nap time and as long as he stays quiet he can play all he wants. He useally passes out in about 15 minutes and i then unlock the door.

i really really really want some homemade chili now!

I'm wondering if the age of 5 is a magic number? My son has also become wonderful! He's 5 1/2 and has always been a handful, but recently, it's like he realizes he's incontrol of himself and his behavior. It's been wonderful! Have fun - I can't wait to read your book! :0)

I'd say with the way you are writing, you're gonna blow right through that epidural window! So sorry, now push!
