1. Rattle off a line from any of the ten or so books on our living room floor and Mr. Pants (or in this heat, Mr. No Pants) will bring it back to you and climb up onto your lap for a reading. He’s THAT smart. (His parents, on the other hand, are RETARDED for not knowing earlier how much he could understand).
2. Blueberries are “bbrbrb brbrbbr” and they’re still his favorite.
3. He can run. Usually he winds up on his bum, but he still gives it a good college try.
4. Lynne bought him one of the old Fisher Price popcorn toys I’ve been dying to get for him. The Boy thinks it’s a giant rattle. He walks around shaking it at the dog.
5. Every time I run upstairs and leave him down in the living room, he stands at the gate and wails “Mama. MA MA!!”
6. If you turn your back while making coffee, it takes him approximately .3 seconds to locate the off-limits drawer, pry it open and scurry away with a kitchen tool, preferably the meat thermometer or something else involving metal and spikes. Another .5 seconds and poor Harry loses an eye.
7. His favorite letter is “Q”. He wants to go steady with the “Queen with quarter:”
8. His shoe size is a 5 double-wide. Sadly, however, there are no shoes in that size within a 300-mile radius.
9. We all trudged over to the beach on Friday afternoon and arrived to find it pleasantly hot. (Well, pleasant for me. Dave is - how shall I put this? - not so much of a beach person. He would probably say it was miserably hot.) Alex played and played, ate fistful after fistful of sand and after an hour or so started pulling on the front of my bathing suit wanting to nurse. I yanked out the towel, wrapped him up in it and nursed him in the sun right there on the beach while we listened to the waves crash. As if that weren’t perfect enough, he substituted the ends of my braids for his missing blankie and gently rubbed them on his cheek as he sucked away.
Your boy is just delightful. He sounds so smart!! And I just went through a bunch of your pictures, and he doesn't look A BIT skinny to me. My Mallory - SHE is a skinny minnie. 18 pounds at 12 months. I loved reading this entry. It always makes me giddy to hear about other babies the same age as mine!!
