This post is being brought to you by my shiny new MacBook. My old one hasn't worked in many moons and given that I made THAT one last for eight years, I figure they're a pretty good investment. This new one is gold and like my new bike and the new house, it desperately needs a name. I'm happily taking suggestions from the peanut gallery.
It's been an interesting year financially-speaking. I've been a complete and utter failure at my $100 homeless project. I started it during the slow season at work when I usually need my extra cash to supplement our living expenses. I kept meticulous track of my tips all year and my plan was to make up for my lack of charity during the summer months when I make most of my annual income, but that all went to shit when Patrick's main software gig ended and we had several months of instability. This is no surprise at all for a freelancer and wasn't really that scary since he still always made more than I did, but the eviction notice we got in May meant I was hoarding everything I possibly could for the move. Our former landlord was a total asshole, but at least he let us go month-to-month until we found a place. I used my tax return for the deposit.
All this is to say that my new computer was a "gift" from Patrick to help make up for pulling more than my fair share of the bills during the slim months. That and he not-so-secretly wants me to start writing again and thinks having a working laptop will help. I'm hoping he's right and that posting a little something every day will get me back into the habit.
So far so good.
It will also help me to have things to write about, so if you have any questions you'd like me to throw a paragraph at, leave them in comments and I'll do my best.
