Because it's not like I don't already have enough on my plate, what with a new business to launch, a book to sell, another book to finish, two kids to keep track of, a husband to feed and a house to try and keep.
So yeah, adding band practice to that list is OBVIOUS.
But this band I want to start? It NEEDS to be done.
This is my fantasy:
We're a trio: vocals, acoustic guitar and a stand-up bass. Maybe a tambourine if we're feeling classy.
And we're a cover band. All we sing is dirty old-school rap songs. We're 100% acoustic and 100% ironic, but good enough that you might not even notice.
Can't you see it, though? It's me and the band, up on a hoopty stage in some crusty bar. I'm wearing my mom jeans and some Maybelline and maybe the bassist has a Christmas sweater with sequins on it.
And we're singing "go on and shake your rump like a rump shaker." Or maybe, "rollin down the street, smokin indo, sippin on gin and juice." We don't dub out the dirty words, either. We sing 'em loud, in three-part harmony.
It might sound like a bad SNL skit, but it's also totally on my Life List.
PS - Go on and shake your tree like a tree shaker.

I'm so in. Who doesn't love a white girl singing Too Short??

I'd come see that. I'd even pay for a babysitter, so I could come see that.

Yeah, it's too bad you don't live in St. Louis because I would totally make you have me in your band. I would even do the choreography for you pro bono! (That is, until your band took off and started making money. :-) )

Choreography? Wait. The only choreography I'm capable of is sipping martinis between songs. ;)

I am in if we can sing Baby Got Back.

Also amazing how many acoustic versions of "Gin & Juice" are on YouTube. I think Phish did it in the late 1990's and made it a popular acoustic ironic song.

Hank III did a country version of Gin and Juice and it ROCKS!

ok, I was reading your blog on church and loving it (somehow found you on fb through a Nevada City friend) and had to share a goof that my brother, friend and I did in our basement one night, after surprisingly minute amounts of gin and juice. So, to whoever you are: http://www.youtube.com/kaliflowered#p/a/EA79C98348EAC55E/0/ZOhPKwCtAKc
I'm the one on the left, as usual.
