I feel like I haven't really been here for over a week what between my awesome dental surgery and then going out Friday night (in the CITY like a Big Girl) and then the party Saturday. It's like I took a week long break from my normal life. I'm actually looking forward to cooking dinner tonight and taking Alex to karate! Routine!
So the party was really fun. I love any opportunity I can find to see my friends (and feed them). As usual, I tended to stick nearby the punch bowl in the kitchen so after everyone left I felt like I should've spread myself around a bit better. I blame the vodka. I didn't sit down once the entire party, though, and I was so busy having fun that I totally forgot to eat dinner.
Dave and I agreed there was definitely something missing, though, and it was about half the guest list. About 15 people ended up not being able to attend for various (good) reasons and that combined with the baby sitter gave the party a different vibe than normal. It was like all grown up and stuff!
Then the kids all came back downstairs for dinner and it felt more like our usual crazy chaos. The funny thing is that Dave and I actually really wanted to invite even MORE people than we did, but we added everyone up and decided it would just be too many bodies (and too cold to have people outside): our next door neighbors, some of Alex's new school friends, my aunt and uncle, the entire table of bloggers I got to hang out with on Friday night- I wanted to invite everyone and in hindsight I really should have! I was worried about inviting too many people and then not getting to actually even TALK to everyone, but it turns out that always happens anyway no matter how many people we have. At Christmas I'll cast a wider net and if it means we have to squeeze in, so be it!
Having a babysitter here was FANTASTIC by the way. I didn't waste even a second of the party standing at the bottom of the stairs yelling up at my kids to stop fighting! The babysitter even tucked Alex into bed before leaving. When he woke up the next day, he immediately asked when she could come back again.
Of course I was too inebriated to remember to take any pictures, so with the exception of a photo of the best-costumed family, I have only before and after shots. Dave had A LOT of fun decorating, too, and I'll be posting more photos of the outside of the house once he finishes it for Friday. As far as I'm concerned, though, this is absolutely the SCARIEST thing he did and you don't even notice it until you're walking back down the driveway:
BOO!

Fabulous decorations. What food did you have?
