On Friday afternoon, Dave won a big motion in court for his biggest client. We went out to dinner, sans kids, to celebrate. It was nice, but I'm getting sick of Beaches. My half cheeseburger and fries were rockin' good, though. The mango margarita turned out to be blended instead of stirred, so I barely drank it (frozen drinks + tiny post-op tummy = no room for dinner).
When we got home, Carol was cleaning up a broken glass bowl that Genoa had knocked off the kitchen table onto the tile floor. I quickly got out the Dyson and took over. When the job was finally finished over half an hour later, my blood sugar was down to 35. There goes that plan to incorporate exercise into my, cough, healthy lifestyle.
The next morning, Alex had his first indoor soccer practice. It was adorable.
We enrolled him in a class for 4-5-year-olds and it seems like a perfect fit. The whole thing was incredibly enlightening. Alex had a MUCH harder time listening to instructions than I ever would've imagined. I could blame the instructors for being less than stellar with the directions in the first place, but most, no, ALL of the other kids followed directions better than Alex. So obviously, this soccer class is A GOOD THING. He needs it. Maybe next week when the newness wears off, he'll be a better listener. I'm hopeful. The good news is that he ADORES it.
On our way out to dinner on Friday night, Dave somehow threw out his back and was basically useless the entire weekend. I was bummed because I had long been planning that Saturday would be Operation Build Garden Box. It didn't end up happening and now all my seedlings are completely outgrowing their tiny starter box. I won't get to plant them until I get back from California in ten days. Hopefully they'll make it.
Anyway, Saturday night Genoa broke yet ANOTHER glass bowl, this time a piece of supposedly-un-breakable Corelle. I spent another twenty minutes vacuuming my kitchen, at which point my Dyson up and died on me. It's currently at the repair shop having approximately 14 pounds of long curly hair extracted from its bowels. It won't be ready until after I leave for California, which means I can't vacuum my house before I leave. Good times!
And finally, I AM NOT PREGNANT, but that doesn't mean I don't NEED CLOTHES.

Re: Mom street journal post...Splurge (yes, splurge, more than $20!) on a little black dress and glam it up with accessories. It will be worth it if you buy a classic shape, you will wear it way more than once.

Joshua is starting soccer this week. I'm so excited and hoping he will really love it!

Re: Mom street post. I'm here for the shopping..just tell me when!!
Sometimes you just have to splurge on yourself. I don't know about you but it can get very old and frustrating looking through endless clearance racks and when you have the kiddos that is even more of a challenge. I have found a few brands/stores that I know fit me and I try to stick to those now. In the long run that saves me time and money because I know I love what I bought and will wear it! I may spend more on my items but I buy less. For me there is something about looking sharp that makes me look how I feel on the inside and gives me a sense of empowerment. For sure spend the money on yourself and stick with the less expensive items for your children. For children's clothes I have found that some things I buy don't wash well. So, sometimes I will splurge by a few dollars and buy the higher quality item. I'm very thankful I do have clothes from my older son to pass on to my younger son.
In the end I am picky about what I dress my boys in and myself but I am learning how to give up that up because pretty soon they will no longer like what I like!! YIKES!

I'm sure you already heard this from Melting Mama, but it was probably the margarita that made your blood sugar drop so low. Even if you only had a sip or two, it seems like sweet alcoholic drinks are the worst culprits for giving us post-op folks dangerous blood sugar crashes. Which sucks, because the sugary-sweet girly drinks were my favorite. I barely drink now, but when I do, I'm trying to get accustomed to vodka martinis, since they don't have any sugar in them. Sigh. Such is life, I guess.

Re: Mom Street Journal Post....I am also a non-splurger when it comes to clothes. I have found that if you can wait it out 99% of the items I want will go on clearance in a month - even the better brand items and with 4 kids I'm willing to wait. I would also recommend seeing if there are any consignment shops in your area. I can get great brand name clothes for under $10 - most often for under $5! You should also be able to find a great formal dress at a good consignment shop. Good luck and have fun!

I read your Mom Street Journal post earlier. In my Good Housekeeping magazine, I just read an article on renting fancy dresses. It looks much more reasonable than buying. Here's the website: www.onenightaffair.com. According to the magazine, they alter the dress to fit you and you get it for five nights. I don't know if this will work, but they claim that Oscar winners rent from them all the time.
