Manda likes to write!

  • GRAVY!
My first novel started with a mole. Yes, a MOLE - a freckle, a birthmark, whatever you want to call it.
  • I was at the pool with my daughter getting ignored by our swim instructor when a lifeguard with a particularly ripped abdomen walked by. He stopped to flirt with one of the female lifeguards and my eyes flew directly to an adorable mole on the top can of his six-pack.
  • "How cute!" I thought (among other things). "He looks like a character in a romance novel!"
  • So I went home and started writing fiction for the first time. That was a year ago and I still haven't been able to stop. GRAVY is the story of a suburban housewife who wants another baby, but gets a man with a mole instead.
  • I'm currently looking for an agent. Preferably someone with a bent sense of humor and a Twitter account. Bonus if she laughs when I ask her if that's a Kindle in her pocket or if she's just happy to see me.

Since you're all about sharing recipes, one of my friends told me about this Magic Tea concoction for sore throats: make some lemon tea, sweeten it with honey, and dissolve a regular Halls menthol cough drop in it. It doesn't taste very good, but it coats the throat, opens the sinuses and makes you feel SO much better. Promise.

Hope you get some relief soon.

A few natural home remedies we have tried.

Common Cold/Sore Throat:
Garlic, honey, lemon juice, cinnamon essential oil and lots of vitamin C.
Make a "tea" by crushing a clove of garlic and pour boiling water over it into a cup. Squeaze the juice of half a lemon into it, add about a teaspoon of honey(raw if you have it), fill the rest of the cup with water and drink as often as possible. The steam helps open your sinuses, while the rest is very soothing. Garlic is also the number one fighter of any type of virus or infection!

Croup/Respiratory Colds
Mullein, Eucalyptus Oil, Echinacea and more vitamin C.
Buy Mullein from a healthfood store and add 10-20 drops into liquid or juice and drink often. (It's pleasant tasting so your kiddo's shouldn't put up a fuss)
A few of it's benefits:
calms spasms and is a natural pain killer.
Helps to reduce swelling in glandular system.
Used in all respiratory problems and pulmonary diseases.

Eucalyptus Oil can be rubbed on the chest or back near the lungs. It's also great to add to a humidifier or "steam bath" in the bathroom. Eucalyptus is a natural expectorant and helps to open everything up.

We swear by a hot toddy remedy round these parts (not for the pregnant, unfortunately): Hot water, fresh-squeezed lemon juice or lemon slices, honey and good bourbon or whiskey. It soothes and it helps you sleep and I think the side effects are little compared with cold medicine.

Can I bring you anything? Seriously...

Honey.
