So far I'm really disappointed with this season of American Idol. Last year it seemed like I had too many favorites and this year I'm having trouble coming up with even a SINGLE favorite. Why do they keep saying that there's more talent this year than ever before? It seems like they picked the top 24 based on their STORIES and not their singing and I find that annoying. Most of the singers sound average to me and very few stand out.
That said, so far I'm totally pulling for Carly Smithson. She's by far the best singer of the bunch. I like that she's got this tough-looking tattoo-parlor exterior and that her voice doesn't necessarily match that. She's not obvious; you can't look at her and tell what she's going to sound like. (As opposed to Amanda Overmyer, who both looks and sounds like a biker chick.)
I also absolutely love Brooke White. I love that she's so sweet and happy and that she pisses Simon off. Her voice isn't spectacular, but she's a real musician and I like that. I want the sweet young married Christian nanny to win it. (Dude she babysits TWINS! That alone makes her my hero).
Another force with which to be reckoned is Ramiele Malubay. Every time she sings, she's flawless and I love her style. She's got such a great voice. And she's so squishy and cute! The only problem is that her name is IMPOSSIBLE to remember. I bet that will be her downfall.
I'm not truly a big fan of any of any of the boys. What a mediocre crew. My favorite, by far, though, is the be-dreadlocked Jason Castro. He's so unassuming and shy and likable and his voice ain't half bad either.
Michael Johns is pretty decent as well. He's consistently good and I could see him actually recording an album. The only problem is that he looks like he belongs in a Apple commercial.
People I want to like, but whose voices aren't really that great:
Asia'H Epperson (Such a sweet girl! And her daddy died and I really want her to win, but her voice isn't spectacular).
Joanne Borgella (Bringing it for the plus size ladies! And SO beautiful, but not that great of a singer, sadly. Her voice sounds a little whiny to me.)
Who do I think will go home this week?
Amy Davis
Syesha Mercado
Robbie Carrico
Jason Yeager

I agree about the boys. I'm not even TiVo-ing the boys' shows.
I realized last night that it's not Amanda Overmyer who looks old... it's Amanda Overmyer's HAIR.
CHANGE THE HAIR, Amanda. Truly, if you look closely at that girl's face, she's smooth and healthy and 20-something. Her hair adds twenty years. Not good years. Trailer years.
Carly's amazing. I love her story, call me sappy. She told a story during her audition phase about how her husband was afraid he'd hurt her chances, what with being completely tattooed and all. My heart melted right there.
And I SWEAR I know the family Brooke nannies for. I swear I do. I need to double-check before I start yapping, though.

I voted for Luke because he was two years behind me in undergrad even tho I don't know him.

I was so sad that I keep missing the show- but maybe there's no need to be yet. Although I haven't watched it without TiVo in a few years and I'm not sure I can handle all the "blah, blah, blah" that I generally fast forward through.
Once they're down to the top 12 I'll be making a real effort to watch.

Im watching AI like I do Nip/Tuck this season.
I personally like Amanda Overmyer. She's different, and i like to see different than the same ole-same ole. Granted, her style/hair is a little off but sometimes its ok to be off. At least she is being herself, and THAT i admire.
Isnt Carly the one where the news reported she had already had a record deal and make a CD but it didnt sell well? I cant remember......

I'm loving Syesha. And Carly. The boys are a total yawn.

I agree... very mediocre season thus far. I personally disagree with AI for allowing Carly to be on the show... I don't think that someone who's already had a deal with a record company (especially the one that Randy Jackson himself worked for) should be allowed to compete... but I digress... I also think it was a little unfair for Joey Fatone and Drew Lachey to be on dancing with the stars (doesn't mean I don't love 'em!).
So far I cannot name a single favorite.
