For two weeks we've been looking forward to going to the pumpkin patch with some friends today. I spoke with Tana Thursday and we agreed to go even if it's raining. Rumor has it that people in the Northwest basically ignore the rain and go out anyway.
It didn't occur to me until I woke up this morning to the sound of the rain on the window that Northwesterners probably find it easier to go out in the rain because they, I dunno, actually own RAIN GEAR.
DOH!
Now we have to stop at Target on our way to the pumpkin patch because obviously rain coats/boots/hats are in order.

Two-cents of advice from a native PNWer (about 4 hours north on I-5 in Bellingham).
If you think you're going to be in the Pac Northwest for a while I highly recommend putting down some money on a decent raincoat. Something that's breathable - like Goretex. And something that covers your butt so when you sit down the rain droplets don't collect and make a river down your back and into your butt. I also recommend a hood on the raincoat that has an extra-long visar to help keep the water out of your eyes.
Umbrellas are pretty worthless - especially when it's windy. Kids love them, so I always have have a couple kids' sized ones laying around for my daughter. Rubber rainboots are cute, but they can be hard to get on and off, and are often hard to walk / run around in. My daughter is 3 1/2 and loves Crocs boots. They are waterproof, easy to get on and off (she can do it without help), and she's able to walk/run in them.
Welcome to winters in Western Washington! We're happy you're here!

We were planning on going to the pumpkin patch today too, but the plan was to go after I got my hair cut and styled. Then I realized that the chances of my hair looking this good again (until the next cut) was slim to none, so I wimped out.
I think I made the right choice, since I'm going swing dancing tonight, and I still look hot.
I hope you guys had fun!
