Alex's first day seemed to go just fine. It's hard to tell since I only got to talk with the teacher's aide, who said he's learning the Montessori rules, which can be hard at first, but he seems to be doing just fine. Alex didn't have much to say except that he finally noticed the lack of [traditional] toys at school. He did say he had fun, though, so there's that. Most importantly, my gut feels great.
The new house continues to delight and amaze me. And my butt cheeks, which have decided they personally DESPISE the stairs, or rather, the fact that I insist upon climbing them at least fifty times a day. Maybe I'll have buns of steel after all. (HA HA she said while popping another Rolo into her mouth!) The kids both LOVE the extra space and Alex seems to really enjoy just playing in his room.
I've written more about the house at The Mom Street Journal. Dave is bugging me to spend time with him since we have no cable TV yet and he threw away his old ragged computer chair and has no way of sitting in front of his computer. Tomorrow I get cable tv, new mattresses and hopefully enough time to sit down and write more.

Manda! $40 a week? I would DIE for that number, seriously. Averaging across the the year, and taking into account that Randy himself mows and weed-whacks every Sunday, it costs us about double that. A week. PAY. IT. Every time you look outside and see your gorgeous kids frolicking in the well-manicured green yard, you'll reap the benefits. Plus, you won't have to a) do it yourself, gross, and b) listen to Dave bitch about doing it from now until the end of time. (Love you, Dave.)
$40 a week it is. Do it.

Space heaters. We have a much larger house now too and in the winter we are able to keep the therm set in the middle 60s and use a oil space heater in each bedroom at night.

"he threw away his old ragged computer chair and has no way of sitting in front of his computer."
Can Dave use a dining room chair for a minute?
$40 Bucks? I would pay it to avoid the taking care of it, but because your a new homeowner, you might want to do it yourself for a couple of weeks or so.......then you will appreciate only paying someone 40 bucks a week, hell, you might offer him 50. LOL
I am finicky with space heaters in my house. I know they make them better and if they tip now, they shut off etc. but they still scare me!
Well Hot Damn! Glad to hear things are going well in Alex's new school!
Buns of steel..... funny, i wish i had stairs, great exercise that you cant avoid!

Alex looked SO cute in his fleece - glad his first day went well.
I know this is easier said than done, but every time I am going from the upstairs to the downstairs, before I descend I try to think of everything I will need to bring down with me, so that I don't have to make 10 trips. I also have a basket at the bottom of the stairs where I pool the things that need to go up, so I can take them all at once.
Also, re: echoing in your new house - adding more upholstered furniture will help this, as will hanging pictures...things on the walls absorb and deflect sound.

Electric blankets.. and heated rugs. Oh, and usb heated mittens. I am always cold, even if the heat is on. Anyway, all those use less money than heat. Also, if you don't have ceiling fans, think about putting them in. In the winter you reverse them and it helps with the high ceilings... drawing the heat back down.
$40? That seems high. What happened to paying the neighbor kid $10? lol

Hang framed photos on the walls, the wood/glass will absorb the echo sound.
