GRAVY

  • My first novel started with a mole. Yes, a MOLE - a freckle, a birthmark, whatever you want to call it.
  • I was at the pool with my daughter getting ignored by our swim instructor when a lifeguard with a particularly ripped abdomen walked by. He stopped to flirt with one of the female lifeguards and my eyes flew directly to an adorable mole on the top can of his six-pack.
  • "How cute!" I thought (among other things). "He looks like a character in a romance novel!"
  • So I went home and started writing fiction for the first time. That was over a year ago and I still haven't been able to stop. GRAVY is the story of a suburban housewife who wants another baby, but gets a man with a mole instead.
  • GRAVY is now available on Kindle and Nook!

When Tommy would do the same thing Genoa's doing - fall asleep exhausted in your arms then wake up screaming as soon as you move to crib - we instituted the 10 minute rule. One he closed his eyes and his breathing deepened into sleep we'd note the time. Then we wouldn't try to move him for 10 minutes. It usually worked. 10 minutes feels like a really long time when there's an obviously sleeping baby in your arms and there's good TV on in the other room. I'd also make any changes to the room like turning off the little lamp at the start of those 10 minutes so that I didn't startle him with a change at the end of the wait and have to start over.

When he got older we weaned him off the 10 minute thing by moving him one minute earlier every 3-4 days until he was being moved right after he fell asleep.

I miss both of my OBs back in New York, so I know how you feel. Did you get a Mirena or copper IUD?

Kirsten

Hi, I've been lurking for a while (long time reader, first-time poster) and really enjoy your writing. I had my first baby (Ella) July 5 and oh yes, I have achy feet. My hands and shoulders ache too. Do you think it is sleep deprivation? I thought it must be some sort of vitamin deficiency. Anyway, thanks so much for your very fine website!

Sheryl

MOVE? Did I totally miss something, or is my mommy brain failing me again?

lia

I am pretty sure that I go to the same OB as you having read back in your blog. I just started with him but funny thing is that I was in the office on Tuesday too. Must have just missed each other!

Jenny

I love my IUD-Mirena by the way!! It has made my periods wonky. Not in a bad way, just different. I am sorry about your OB/GYN, I love mine too and would hate to have to leave them. I think I have a grip on my sleep deprivation- I just nap when they do and fuck cleaning/laundry/dishes...they will still be there later!! Plus,I have JUST RECENTLY got both of the boys to take their naps AT THE SAME TIME!!! So yeah,I am ALL about the naps!!

Its been 3 years since I had Matt and I still miss my OB/GYN. Now i usually just use my GP for my check ups.

Move?
I think i missed something too.

Audrey

My ankles ache today and I'm exhausted -- very strange!!

When you do move up this way, I have a great midwife and a great nurse practitioner (at an OB's office) to refer you to...just so you know! :)

I thought I was the only one who got achy legs when tired!! Glad to know I'm not alone. Happy Birth-day to you! I'm LOVING the 3's around here. Made the 2's totally worth it. Enjoy!!!!
